WhatsApp finally launched WhatsApp Business app in India. The announcement comes in less than a week after it was introduced in select countries like UK, Italy, Indonesia, Mexico and the United States. WhatsApp said during the announcement last week that majority of small businesses in India and Brazil rely on WhatsApp. Hence it was pretty obvious that sooner or later WhatsApp Business app would arrive in India.

According to an official WhatsApp blog post from last week, WhatsApp Business accounts carry information that is important for any business to operate with their customers i.e., business description, email, store and website addresses etc. The app lets business owners provide prompt answers to certain frequently asked questions (FAQs). They can set default greeting messages for introductions and in some cases, as well as away messages.
WhatsApp Business accounts can keep track of how they perform based on several metrics and figure out what works for them and what does not. Existing WhatsApp users are not required to do anything specific in order to be eligible to contact businesses. But we would like to recommend them to at least keep their WhatsApp updated for seamless working. Users can can also connect with businesses using WhatsApp Web.
WhatsApp Business is currently limited to Android users and we are yet to learn if it will come to iOS or Windows anytime soon. The app is listed on Google Play Store for Android. Go to Play Store and search for WhatsApp Business app. You should see an option to download the app. Make sure to sign in with the same Google account you have signed in with on your phone in case you are accessing Play Store from desktop.
WhatsApp currently serves over 1.3 billion active users worldwide including over 200 million of them across India.
